Programme strategies adopted by MICT

Education

How Students Approach MICT

Students come into contact with MICT through multiple channels:

  • Donors identify deserving students and refer them to MICT for funding support often provided by the same donors.
  • Students already supported by the programme guide other needy student to MICT.
  • Education institutions inform students who are financially challenged, about MICT’s support opportunities.
  • Direct requests submitted to MICT.

How Funds are Disbursed

  • Funds are disbursed directly to the educational institution, not to the beneficiary. Academic performance is closely monitored. Warnings are given to poor performing students and their parents.

Health

How Patients Approach MICT

Patients or their families reach MICT through:

  • Donor recommendations
  • Referrals from earlier supported patients
  • Local community organizations/volunteers that guide poor families to the Trust
  • Direct requests submitted to MICT.

How Funds are Disbursed

In many cases, once the treatment cost is verified by MICT with the concerned hospital, MICT pays the approved amount directly to the hospital on behalf of the patient. If the patient requires medicines, MICT reviews doctor’s prescriptions, purchases medicines and hands them over to the patient.

  • This task is carried out by MICT staff members to ensure transparency and accuracy.
  • When diagnostic tests are required, a staff member accompanies the patient to the laboratory. Payment is made directly to the diagnostic centre by the staff member.
  • In exceptional and well justified cases, MICT may consider partial reimbursement of medical expenses based on proof of payment made.

Ramzan Food

How areas are identified

  • Recommendations of credible NGOs who have a history of partnership with MICT.
  • Needs identified through community referrals/volunteers/focal persons.
  • Media reports identifying areas having food shortages.
  • Research Studies and Survey reports.
  • It should be noted that this is a very old programme of MICT and staff are well familiar with conditions in urban slums and several rural areas where vulnerable population groups reside. We prioritize widows, orphans, unemployed, disabled and poor people.

Capacity Building & Livelihood

How People Contact MICT

Applicants seeking livelihood support reach MICT through:

  • References from field partners, NGO partners, volunteers, focal persons, notables
  • Previous beneficiaries who guide others
  • Direct requests submitted to MICT

Distribution Process

  • A standard rate is set for fund raising. Adjustments are made according to actual needs and prices.
  • Required items (e.g. sewing machine, tools, groceries, poultry etc) are purchased by MICT locally and delivered directly to beneficiaries.

Cost Per Person

Costs vary depending on the nature of items provided and are calculated on a case by case by basis with an upper limit. Generally Rs 40,000 are allocated if a cart is to be given along with supplies for sale, Rs 30,000 are allocated if only supplies are provided in a home based shop. Lesser amount is allocated for small value supplies. Inflation costs are considered in budget planning.

Water & Sanitation

How location of water plants is selected

MICTs main technical water and sanitation partner is the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Punjab which appoints focal persons to work with MICT on operational matters. The location of water plants is done on technical grounds in areas where water is scarce and unsuitable and water plants are installed to purity them enough for human consumption.

How location of handpumps is selected

Hand pump installation is one of the most popular programmes of MICT. PHED Punjab remains the closest ally and operates through local vendors. Sites are selected on the basis of needs assessment, water quality, willingness of communities to take care of handpumps after installation and donor interest.

Emergency Relief

How MICT receives information

  • Media reports
  • Phone calls from affected communities
  • Partner NGOs, volunteers
  • NDMA/PDMA sitreps.

Tree Plantation

Where trees are planted

Tree plantation is undertaken by MICT staff, volunteers and partners focusing on schools, health centers, graveyards and any other places where communities gather. In some cases and subject to availability, plants are given as gifts to students and community members to grow at home.

How plants are procured

MICT often receives free of cost plants during the monsoon season.
